Spent some time at the Palm Springs airport and just worked on catching some of the commuter planes taking off and landing. Worked on shooting from various spots in the airport and found some of the best ones in North Hangar of the Palm Springs Air Museum. It was also nice that the shade kept me from melting in the desert sun.
Fun event during Christmas at the USS Midway. They decorate the plans with lights and let people in at night to walk around and view. I had visited the museum during the day and then to come back at night was special.
Lufthansa flight landing at the San Diego Airport. I was able to shoot this out of the back window of my hotel while in San Diego. We stayed a couple of nights at the Porto Vista hotel in Little Italy. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel as it had seen better days and needs a renovation. However it was nice that the fifth floor window on the corner the back window had no screen and allowed me to catch flights as they were landing at the aiport.
At the Cable Airport in Upland shooting the comings and going of planes. A couple of Cessna’s and an RV-8 kit plane above. Always love the background of the mountains on a clear day. Shot with the A7R5 with the 24-240 lens. At this airport you are able to get close enough that you don’t need to a super long lens to shoot here.
The August Planes of Fame Hangar Talk featured the Bronco OV-10 this was a plane built by North American, that is a twin turbo prop plane. It has seen use for almost 60 years of service. This was one that had been refurbished by a local company in Chino. Beautiful plane that has a long service life.
This month Planes of Fame flew the P-51A Mustang Mrs. Virginia. Beautiful plane and there aren’t many of this variant flying around. This variant had the Allison engine. This the only authentic version of this variant flying.
